Annual Meeting Pittsburgh 2012: Young Professional Programming Preview

By: Meagan Lewis Each year, the AIChE Annual Meeting focuses on academic topics, and this year the Young Professional Committee will explore several advanced degrees options. Whether you are interested in technical research or a business track, there will be a session available for you. The Young Professional programming will kick off the morning of Monday, October 29, with concurrent sessions. One of the morning sessions is titled "Undergraduate Research Forum" and is co-sponsored by the Education Division. This session will give undergraduates students a chance to show off their research to the AIChE community. This topic was so popular that an entire day - both the morning and afternoon session - is devoted to it. At the same time, the Young Professional Committee will be holding a new session called, "MBA in a Day," co-sponsored by the Management Division. This session will provide a quick snapshot of planning and applying to business schools, a look into core classes every MBA student takes, and a word from experienced MBAs. We are fortunate to have guest speakers from Carnegie Mellon, Penn State University, and several experienced AIChE members. The "MBA in a Day" is also a two-part session with talks in the morning and the afternoon. Later in the week the Young Professional Committee will be co-sponsoring a session with the Environmental Division, with a focus on sustainability. The session is titled "Achieving Sustainable Buildings through Chemical Engineering" and will address the grand challenge of restoring and improving urban infrastructure. This interactive discussion of sustainable materials and building research will be something that every Young Professional should attend. Chemical engineers love to learn but we also love to socialize, so be sure not to miss the Young Professional Mixer on the evening of Sunday, October 28, after the Annual Meeting opening reception. The social will be held at The Library, so be sure to look out for more details!
