Salt Lake City—A Great Site for a Great Meeting

Salt Lake City, Utah

Even though there's always a lot of working in preparing for an AIChE Annual Meeting, I was excited when I heard we were going back to Salt Lake. Why? Because I get to go back to Salt Lake City.

Like many other people, I didn't know a lot about Salt Lake City before my first trip here. What I discovered was a city that's somewhat unique. There is, of course, a whole lot of history there and you can walk to some of the more famous sights from the Salt Palace Convention Center. But a lot of cities have historic sites. They just haven't been built at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

With all due respect to my friends in Colorado and New Mexico, Salt Lake City runs right up to the mountains in a way that Denver and Albuquerque don't. The visual contrast between urban streets and towering granite peaks is quite striking and really should be experienced firsthand.

There's more to Salt Lake City, though, than just great scenery. There's a thriving creative scene in Salt Lake City. And with that come restaurants and galleries, boutiques and night clubs.

The New York Times ran an article about Salt Lake City last June and it's worth reading.

I hope you join us in Salt Lake. It's a great technical program and a great city.

If you're interested in attending the annual meeting and you haven't signed up yet, you can register here.
