AIChE Virtual Local Session

You're invited to participate in this month's online meeting of the AIChE Virtual Local Section (Virtual.aiche.org). The meeting is Thursday Nov 17th, starting at 8 PM eastern US time, and you can participate via Internet connection (preferred) or phone.

This section was established to provide a local section experience for those who can't participate in a local section because of geography or time constraints. The meetup is open to all AIChE members and prospective members around the world.

Be one of the first 10 to log in tonight and get a free Starbucks card!

We also now have a Virtual AICHE LinkedIn & VirtuAICHE Facebook groups, so I encourage you to get involved with that.

If you're planning on joining us this evening, join us early, because we're giving away 10 free Starbucks gift cards to the first 10 participants at tonight's meeting!

Join us each month

Each month, we have a Young Professionals Hour at 8 PM Eastern Time followed by a general meeting at 9 PM. We have an exciting program agenda for this month and are trying to build this new section up. Whether you are looking to get more involved with the AIChE, apply your talents to specific positions (we have some still open!), network with experienced colleagues, or meet new friends, the Virtual Local Section can be just what you need.

This evening's program

Alessandra Carreon

This month's meeting guest is (ChEnected writer!) Alessandra Carreon of ENVIRON International Corp in Seattle, who will be leading a discussion about sustainable & innovative "green" chemical engineering. If you're like me, sometimes there is a bewildering array of "green" buzzwords in the popular science media, and Alessandra will help us with a framework of those and how chemical engineering can make a meaningful impact. If you have time, please read a very recent commentary by Dr. Bhavik Bakshi of The Ohio State University, published in the recent edition of Current Opinion in Chemical Engineering. The link to the article is here. If you can't access the full text, I will be glad to send it to you (NoahMeeks@UKY.edu).

At 9 PM, the VLS general meeting will feature a technical presentation on "Alternative Chemical Feedstocks" by Mr. Mark Stewart of Dow Chemical. You can link here to both the YP hour and general meeting. If you are unable to access directly you can paste into browser or visit virtual.aiche.org for all the details and links.

I look forward to seeing you tonight!

Thanks,

Noah D. Meeks
