Happy Engineers Week 2012!

By admin | Comments (0)
This week is the 61st National Engineers Week, a time to reflect on and celebrate the accomplishments of our profession, as well as a time to plan for its future through outreach and awareness campaigns.

Discover Engineering Family Day

The National Engineers Week Foundation presents a number of programs and events to mark the week. This past weekend, Discover Engineering Family Day kicked off the celebration in Washington, D.C., with fun learning experiences such as ziplines for safely transporting marbles, the chance to explore buoyancy with tinfoil boats, lessons about waves with a giant wave tank, and much more.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Feb 23)

The week continues with Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. In its 11th year, “Girl Day” gives thousands of women engineers, with support from their male counterparts, the chance to directly mentor more than one million girls and young women in grades K through 12.

Promoting engineering throughout the year

The National Engineers Week Foundation produces a number of programs that go well beyond this one week of the year. Some of their other programs include New Faces of Engineering, which honors rising engineers in the professional world and, for the first time this year, engineering students. There are also great outreach programs such as DiscoverE Classroom Visits and the National Engineers Week Future City Competition. You can check out the full roster of programs here.

How are you celebrating the week, and how are you sharing your profession with others?
