Meet Keith Podgorski – Featured Student for August

Where are you from?

Denver, CO

What school do you go to? What year are you?

Rising senior at Notre Dame

Do you hold any positions in your AIChE chapter or with AIChE nationally?

ND Chapter President

Describe an event in your chapter that you are most proud to have been involved with.

Our chapter organized a field trip to BP's Whiting refinery, open to all interested students.

What are your plans after graduation? In what field are you most interested in having an impact?

I plan to go into consulting, specifically in the energy industry.

How do you blow off steam and keep your sanity between classes, homework and projects?

I play on the club ultimate frisbee team, which combines stupid shenanigans with elite athletic competition in the most beautiful way possible. Those kids keep me sane.

Which of your undergraduate classes have you most enjoyed?

I've really enjoyed my Philosophy and Creative Writing classes. And Transport Phenomena 1 and 2, obviously.

How did you decide to pursue a degree in ChE?

I wanted to put my interest in chemistry to practical use, with the hope of helping others. Also, I wanted to spend more time in the library.

What is the best kept secret on your campus?

It's really easy to steal a week's worth of food from a single meal in the dining all.

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

Road trip!

What will you be most saddened to leave behind at school when you move on?

Notre Dame has about 10 days of good weather every year. The rest of the year makes those 10 days the most glorious gifts. I'll miss those rare morsels of sunshine, as well as not having to wear sunscreen under the permacloud.

What is the most unexpected thing you have been asked in an interview?

"Do you believe in Bigfoot? Why or why not? Argue your point in no less than 3 minutes."

Do you have any advice to incoming students and underclassmen ChEs around the world?

Answers on Chegg won't help you study for the test. That much.

What's your first thought when you wake up in the morning?

10, no, 30 more minutes.

If your initials (first/last or first/middle/last) stood for something other than your name, what would it be?

Kenodoxy Palative

How would you like to be involved with AIChE after graduation?

Continue my membership with the national chapter
