Highlight a YP Subcommittee: Publications

Comprised of a dynamic duo, the Publication Subcommittee is responsible for the official internal and external communications of the YPC. Working with AIChE staff, it seeks to raise general awareness among the Young Professionals by providing relevant career advice and publicizing events at both the local and nation level via special publications, quarterly YP newsletters, and, in the near future, social media outlets. Currently, the subcommittee consists of Elizabeth (Horahan) Guenther (Subcommittee Chair) and Dennis Aguirre (Newsletter Editor). Interestingly enough, the subcommittee members are located on opposite ends of the US, so all team efforts take place in a virtual setting - yes, from document storage to team meetings to publication efforts, all are web- or cloud-based (See Highlight an AIChE Publication - CEP Magazine "Use Cloud Tools to Collaborate"). This small hurdle gives the team an interesting character, in the sense that team members are in constant communication but have never formally met. Nevertheless, team success is evident in each publication sent to YPs. To some degree, this subcommittee can arguably be labeled as one of the most creative and, at the same time, one of the most difficult. That's simply because the creative idea-oriented product generated is aimed to inform and attract. And, of course, sometimes what seems like a good idea which requires hard work in the planning phase can completely miss the mark in publication. Note that regardless of the outcome, the end results are always rewarding. If anyone is willing to take up an interesting team challenge, please feel free to contact the subcommittee members at aicheypnews@gmail.com - we are looking for people with fresh ideas who are willing to help with different roles to make publications more widespread and successful.
