Singapore may be the second smallest country is Asia, but it packs a powerful punch for the chemical and biotech industries.
On August 4th, AIChE and its Society for Biological Engineering hosted a reception for members in the country. This was the last night of a successful 2010 ICBN conference, mentioned below. The reception was a great networking opportunity especially for graduate students and post-docs.

In addition to Singapore, members came from India, the U.S., Malaysia, UK, and Korea.
The location was the beautiful Sky Gardens atop the Singapore government's engineering headquarters, Fusionopolis.
Members enjoyed vast views from Jurong Island and the Singapore Flyer to the new ship-shaped casino (Marina Bay Sands) while they met and talked with other engineers. ExxonMobil, Mitsui, and Shell members even pointed out their chemical plants.
The 5th SBE International Conference on Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (ICBN 2010) was a big success. It was held at the Biopolis in Singapore from August 1-4, 2010 and chaired by Professor Jackie Ying. Over 300 delegates from around the world convened at this multidisciplinary conference co-organized by the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) and SBE.
