The next generation of chemical engineering leadership is already here. And now AIChE members have the chance to recognize and support the best and brightest among them so that they can thrive.
Every three years, AIChE recognizes 35 outstanding members under the age of 35 who are shaping the future of the profession. The 35 Under 35 Award honors early career professionals who have made meaningful contributions to chemical engineering and to the AIChE community.
Nominations are now open for the 2026 class.
Who does 35 Under 35 Award honor?
Supported by the AIChE Foundation and led by the Early Career Community, the award celebrates excellence in seven categories:
- Bioengineering
- Chemicals and materials
- Education and outreach
- Energy and environment
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Leadership
- Safety
Nominees are evaluated on their technical achievements, their engagement within AIChE, professional contributions beyond their day-to-day roles, and their potential for continued growth and leadership.
Why it matters
The 35 Under 35 Award is more than a milestone. It highlights individuals who are advancing research, launching companies, leading divisions, mentoring peers, and strengthening the chemical engineering profession. Recognition places recipients among a distinguished cohort of rising leaders and amplifies their work across the AIChE community.
A look back at the 2023 winners
In 2023, 35 early career professionals were selected for exceptional contributions in research, industry, entrepreneurship, education, and service.
The class included:
- 6 winners in bioengineering
- 9 in chemicals and materials
- 2 in education and outreach
- 6 in energy and environment
- 3 in innovation and entrepreneurship
- 7 in leadership
- 2 in safety
These awardees were advancing sustainable catalysis and energy systems, developing wearable and ingestible medical technologies, launching startups, and serving on AIChE committees, divisions, and conference teams.
