Join your peers at the 2025 AIChE Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, from Nov. 2–6 at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center and nearby Marriott Copley Place and Sheraton Boston.
This premier forum brings together chemical engineers across academia and industry for networking, featured lectures, and cutting-edge technical sessions on emerging topics such as sustainable engineering, data science, and green hydrogen production. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet fellow academic and industry researchers, explore new career and collaboration opportunities, and stay at the forefront of innovation and professional development.
This year’s meeting will feature hundreds of sessions from over a dozen divisions and forums and nine topical conferences. New this year are the topical conferences on “Advancing Decarbonization and Sustainability through Utilization of Lignocellulose: Packaging, Energy, and Eco-Manufacturing” and “Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and Other Contaminants of Emerging Concern.”
With over 40 poster sessions, the meeting is the premier forum for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and researchers at all levels of their careers to present the latest innovations in academic and industry research. Returning this year is the “Meet the Faculty Candidates” poster session on Sunday, Nov. 2 and the “Meet the Industry Candidates” poster session on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
In addition to the fantastic programming lineup, attendees can explore the bustling exhibit hall — packed with over 50 exhibitors — showcasing leading technologies in process simulation, instrumentation, and catalysis. It’s the perfect place to discover tools to advance your research, connect directly with technology developers, see the latest solutions in action, and grab some swag.
Featured lectures and can’t-miss events
Monday, Nov. 3
Don’t miss the featured session “Development of a Novel Platform to Deliver Large Volume Synthetic Peptides: The Commercialization of Tirzepatide,” at 11 am. At this session, organized by the Annual Meeting program chairs, attendees will learn about the development and commercialization of Eli Lilly’s GLP-1 drug approved for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. This case study will resonate with chemical engineers beyond the synthetic peptide field, due to Lilly’s innovative approach to process development and control, the design of a new facility to support production, and the timely relevance of emerging peptide therapies.
Tuesday, Nov. 4
Another featured session is set to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 4, titled “Chemical Engineering Education: Experiential Learning.” Hear how some universities have integrated co-op programs — a type of experiential learning initiative — into their chemical engineering curricula. This featured session, as well as many other sessions organized by the Education Division of AIChE, will resonate with professors and educators at all career levels.
Also scheduled for Tuesday is the 2025 Andreas Acrivos Award for Professional Progress in Chemical Engineering Lecture. The 2024 Award winner Ali Khademhosseini, Chief Executive Officer and Founding Director of the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation, will present this year’s lecture. In his talk, he will discuss how engineering innovations are transforming medicine through the creation of personalized biomaterials for treating organ failure, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
Wednesday, Nov. 5
James B. Rawlings will present the 2025 Prausnitz Institute Lecture. Rawlings — a Professor and Mellichamp Process Control Chair in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at the Univ. of California, Santa Barbara — plans to discuss his research devoted to the theory and application of chemical process modeling and predictive control of chemical processes.
Rounding out the featured lectures, the William R. Schowalter Lecture is scheduled for Wednesday evening. Satish Kumar, Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the Univ. of Minnesota, has been selected to present this prestigious lecture this year. In his lecture on Nov. 5, Kumar will discuss the importance of partnerships between research institutions and industry, highlighting several examples of fundamental research inspired by industrial interaction.
These are just a few of the featured lectures and events you can attend at Annual Meeting 2025; be sure to check out next month’s meeting preview in CEP — and the online technical session list — for a full lineup of sessions, speakers, and networking events.
